Are you looking for inexpensive activities to do with your kids throughout the summer? Then, I have a great one for you!
My husband and I learned about the Kids Run for Fun a couple years ago when some of our neighborhood kids were participating (before my son Drake was born). I heard about it again this year and was excited to try it out with Drake! You know…a good way for a toddler to burn off some energy before bed. :-)
The Kids Run for Fun is organized by the Lake Run Club and it’s ONLY $1 per child to participate!
The event is for kids age 1 through 12 and takes place on Friday nights through August 3 (except July 13 & 20) starting at 6:00pm at the Illinois Wesleyan University track. Kids 2 and under run half of the track while kids 3 and over run one complete lap. Each child leaves with a ribbon, and they provide them with a drink after the run, too. And, on the last night, each kid gets a trophy! How nice is that?
We went to the run for the first time tonight and had no idea what to expect. It was packed, but I think the following weeks will be a little better since we’ll be familiar with the set-up and this was the first night this year. We got there a little late, Drake didn’t want to wear his new t-shirt (until he was done with the run, of course) or his race bib (yep, they make it pretty official looking!), and I forgot the SD card for my camera. I’m sure no one has experienced that before?
So, I’m hoping we’ll go again next week, Drake will wear his t-shirt and bib and I’ll be ready with my camera for some fun pictures to include in his scrapbook!
Let us know if you go and what you think of this event!
